Piano Lessons | Learn to Play the Piano

Piano

Perhaps the most useful family of instruments in terms of understanding music easily. The choice of instrument in this group has more to with logistics for many people as a ‘real’ Piano is not always a practical option. The good news is that Electric Pianos are nothing short of awesome, I love them and recommend them as the preferred instrument.

Guitar Lessons | Learn to Play the Guitar

Electric Guitar

Quite possibly the most popular instrument on the planet at this time. If someone has an estimate of how many people in the world play Electric Guitar please Email me.

Electric Guitar is a specialism for me as I am an Examiner in this subject and support and promote the Registry of Guitar Tutors excellent Electric Guitar Playing Syllabus which is validated by the London College of Music and has Ofqual accreditation. That said, most students are content to play the music that they like best and I am happy to help them do so. However the exams are useful when you need a target or a qualification.

Classical Guitar

A lovely instrument, very cheap to purchase, easy on the ear (no amplifiers needed) and relatively easy to get a pleasant sound from. With all the guitar family I would always encourage the student to play at least some pieces in a Classical style even if not actual Classical Music. There are many famous examples of Rock Classics that are played using Classical Fingering.

Bass Guitar

A great instrument in its own right but often viewed as having a supporting role rather than a life of its own. However you view it, the Bass is an essential part of any ensemble and if you are planning to use your Guitar playing examinations to help get you into university, the Bass will count as a second instrument.

Banjo

I favour the 5 string Banjo for its versatility and range. If you play Guitar and use Tablature you can probably play the Banjo without even knowing it. Come along and try!

All subjects are taught on a one to one basis at a pace to suit the student.

All ages and abilities are welcome but you can always contact me regarding the suitability of instruments, for example the size of a guitar for a very young beginner.

Examinations are available in most cases but this is at the discretion of the student and advice and guidance will always be given.
